1. What inspired you to open a wedding venue?
When I purchased the property at Historic Shady Lane, I had no plans to do weddings. However, as we cleaned up the property and began to restore the buildings and grounds, we uncovered a beautiful space. Many couples recognized the potential of the grounds and started asking to host weddings here.
2. What do you enjoy most about hosting weddings?
After we began hosting weddings at Historic Shady Lane, we discovered how much we loved to watch couples and their guests have a great time. That's when we decided to turn it into a business.
Since starting this business, the most rewarding part has been helping couples make their dreams come true on their most important day. At first, I was worried that it might be difficult to meet our clients' high expectations, but we have gotten to meet the best couples I could ever imagine. They are all so wonderful to work with.
3. What makes your venue unique?
All the buildings on our grounds have a rich history. We have buildings dating as far back as the late 1700s. Because we have 34 acres of land with multiple ceremony sites, couples have a wide variety of options at Historic Shady Lane. By selecting all their own vendors and choosing the best site for their style, couples can build the wedding of their dreams.
One of our most popular spaces is a greenhouse that was built in the 1890s, which offers a great space for a rain plan ceremony or cocktail hour. The Venue Report listed our greenhouse in the top 32 greenhouse venues across the United States, Europe, Canada, and Australia.
4. What advice do you have for couples as they prepare for their wedding?
Before deciding on a wedding date or buying a dress, we recommend couples choose the venue first. The venue is the foundation of the entire wedding, so each decision the couple makes will revolve around it. It may even impact the dress and shoes you select. Then, hire a reliable wedding planner that will help you execute your vision-and can also save you money.
5. Why is wedding insurance important for couples?
