Keller-Brown: Describe your company's history and mission. What do you hope customers will experience at Smith Village?
Bill Ream: Approaching the four-year mark of new ownership, Smith Village Home Furnishings and Smith Village Furniture Outlet are still being run today by the same ideals handed down in 1932 by founders Bruce V. Smith (1907-1981) and his wife Ethel R Glatfelter Smith (1907-1994): "When you shop with us . . . you're shopping with family."
For 86 years Smith Village had been a family-owned and operated business in Jacobus, Pennsylvania. When it was time for Dallas Smith, the only descendant still actively working in the store, to retire, he developed a plan for four managers (Gary Inners, Bill Ream, Colleen Schaffner, and Mark Warner), each with more than twenty years of service, to take over the business.
To this day Smith Village is a locally-owned, reputable, and customer-friendly place that you can trust to help you with all your home furnishings needs.
Keller-Brown: What home design/decor trends do you expect to happen in 2022?
Bill Ream: Casual and eclectic mixing of styles continues to be a popular choice for customers. For many of us, we are spending more time at home — both working and socializing - due to the COVID pandemic. So, there is a desire to create an environment that is both functional and comfortable. For living and family rooms, many are choosing sectionals as a place for the family to gather because they come in all shapes and sizes and can offer more seating.
For upholstery, various tones of gray have been a long-time favorite and are here to stay. But we are starting to see a subtle shift to warmer neutrals; more shades of beige, brown, and camel.
When decorating your home, select a color you love for your basic furniture pieces or wall color, then accent with complementary hues and patterns.
Keller-Brown: What other local businesses do you like to support? Why?
Bill Ream: Whenever possible, we work with our independently owned local business partners for our advertising, vehicle fleet service, facility supplies and insurance needs. The personalized service we receive is greatly valued.
Most recently, we have been purchasing local restaurant and food store gift cards for distribution to our hardworking Smith Village team members. We couldn't be prouder of our team for their commitment to providing the absolute best customer experience.
